Vinen, the Lord of Lies and Mischief, is the Chaotic Evil deity of Etheria. His presence is rarely overt, as he tends oversee creatures like demons, rather than care about the Mortals on the Material Plane.

He is not taken seriously by most of the Nine, given his track record of being unserious.

They are the first Deity to have a child of their own, Onyxx Morningstar, who was created as part of a deal with a Mortal. None of the other Deities even considered the possibility of being able to have children of their own, thus having to create rules and regulations under which the Nine are allowed to have offspring going forward.

Description

Appearance

In his humanoid form, Vinen is described as a taller man, wearing an oversized shirt and pants, and a tigher red vest, with reddish curly hair, semi desaturated skin, and purple lips. He has large floppy ears and a thin long tail, similar to a rat’s.

Personality

Vinen is generally percieved as an agent of pure unchained chaos. Despite this belief, his personality is moreso that of a nonchalant, tired man. He is rarely straightforward, preferring to use wordplay to get his point across, or to not elaborate at all. They are not a social individual and prefer to communicate at a distance, rather than in person.

Worship

Symbols and Artifacts

Vinen’s iconography in Aben, Phusul, and Ulos has little variation: a red comedy mask paired with a black tragedy mask. His holy symbols tend to be made of crude metals or painted, sturdy wood.

In Vurahk, their presence tends to be associated with wet or moldy earth, or burnt wood.

Worshipers

Worshippers of the Lord of Lies are rarely open about their worship, as it would be exceptionally shunned. They rather keep to themselves, manipulating and deceiving the people around them, making their lives as difficult and complicated as possible.

In Vurahk, Vinen has no specific way of worshipping him.

Relationships

Onyxx Morningstar

For most of Onyxx’s life, the two have not been in contact. Vinen, as part of his deal with Onyxx’s mother, Lorelei Morningstar, promised to not contact their child before they reach adulthood, or before explicitly allowed by Lorelei.

Vinen and Onyxx only met through Onyxx’s repeated and desperate attempts to gain insight into the location of her warlock patron, The Leviathan. Vinen helped them in exchange for a wheel of cheese.

Onyxx kept leaving chunks of cheese out for the Lord of Lies, to keep them connected.

After Onyxx gave The Leviathan pieces of the Heaven’s Hunt bow, her and Vinen had a convesation during which the Deity admitted to their familial relationship, vaguely explaining how it came about. Vinen then made Onyxx promise to help bring the Heaven’s Hunt back, to avoid unnecessary Celestial deaths.

Given Vinen’s absence through most of Onyxx’s life, their relationship is more of a friendship, rather than an typical parent-child one. Still, Vinen does their best to stay present going forward, wishing to support their child in her life.

Trivia

• When asked by Onyxx what kind of offerings he would like, Vinen said cheese as a joke, not thinking Onyxx would actually do it. To his surprise, she did bring him cheese, and, also to his surprise, he loved it.
• He tends to slack off at his Deity duties. No one questions him about it because it makes sense for the Chaotic Evil Deity to not do what they're told.
• Vinen, despite describing himself as "not that good with people", gives great advice if asked.
