Etheria is a setting made for a home Dungeons and Dragons game. In this world, Rai runs their D&D campaigns.

The world exists in the Material Plane, and is directly connected to the Feywilds and the Voidlands through naturally occurring portals.

History

There were three distinct eras of which most of the world has little information on: Age of Chaos, Age of Dragons, and Age of Gods. Most of today’s historical documents date only back to during The Disintegration, a devastating war that lasted for nearly a decade. The last 759 years have been spent by rebuilding what has been lost - starting the Age of People.

☄ Age of Chaos (~6000-3500 BD):

Long before any life came to Etheria, when the planet was in its early stages of creation, it was uninhabitable rocks, dust, and sand. Elemental Chaos raged here, ravaging the space and forcing elements together. This was the base of the planet.

☄ Age of Dragons (~3500-1000 BD):

Elder Dragons were the first creatures to populate Etheria. They used their innate ability to control the elements, transforming them into the inanimate life on the planet. Most Dragons later moved on, but a handful stayed, tending to their new garden.

☄ Age of Gods (~1000-8 BD):

As the planet blossomed, nine powerful entities took interest in it. The Nine found the planet empty, and wished it had more life. They attached themselves to the world, populating it with bugs, animals, and people. Dragonkin were created as a nod to the Elder Dragons’ previous work on the planet.

This was the time of Gods walking amongst Mortals.

This was also the time of rising tensions, as Mortals grew more worried about the true intentions of the Gods.

☄ The Disintegration (8 BD - 1 AD):

The Disintegration was a war started with the intention to force the gods from the Material Plane. It was a devastating conflict, leaving the continents of Ulos and Phusul with destruction yet to be fixed. By the end of it, the Nine did decide to leave the Mortals alone, moving to the Mounts of Celestia and vowing to cut all contact with the people they created.

This conflict left most Mortals with a disdain to anything divine, including temples, some forms of healing magic, and any individuals, consciously or not, tied to the Gods.

☄ Age of People (1 AD - present):

The Age of People saw a rebuilding of civilizations, discovering of the Arcane, and, more recently, inventing of guns and simpler machinery. It is generally regarded as the start of Mortals ruling the planet, shaping her to their vision.

Calendar

An Etherian year lasts 329 days over the course of 11 months. The months are called Udar'ne, Kalen'tah, Nornah, Elescat, Andern'ne, Maliner, Lostar, Xande'ra, Lon'kath, Berelth, and Monat. Each day is 24 hours in length and the 7 days of the week are called the same as in the real world.

Geographic Characteristics

Continents

• Aben - continent north of Phusul and Ulos. It is equally divided into three regions: Alaris, Derah, and the Kingdom of Ulien.
• Phusul - a continent east of Ulos. It contains an engineering-centric country of Ischia, merchantile countries of Stra and the Balgian Dynasty, the authoritarian Republic of Monzia, the naturalistic country of Senasia, the secretive Kingdom of Horchandra, and a city-state-like region of Redcker.
• Vurahk - a continent surrounded by many scattered isles, far west of Ulos. Its main land body is divided into the habitable Mainlands and uninhabitable Cursed Tail. The Mainlands contain the marine-centric region of Carnew, the lawless land of Had’aaros, the ever-expanding Bronze Union, the region of Lower Thyrrin, the theocratic Order of Ame, and the private Silver Isles.
• Ulos - continent located tot he west of Phusul. It contains the lush region of Vierola, and Ulsiala, a large desert country, whose northern parts had been horrifically ravaged as the final days of the Disintegration ocurred there. The Gokian Empire and the Tsardom of Colgha have been at odds for decades, and are currently in a fragile state of - likely temporary - peace. The Islands of the Forgotten are not under any particular government, as it is used by both Ulosar and Phusulian countries for exile of criminals.

Underdark

The Underdark is the name for all subterranean regions of Etheria. Individual regions may vary, however it is generally regarded as a hostile place full of odd monsters and plants, where only the bravest of adventurers venture, typically to prove their worth.

Seasons

Etherian seasons are not uniform.

• Spring is 91 days, the spring equinox being on Udar'ne 20th.
• Summer is the longest, with 105 days, the summer solstice being on Elescat 21st. It is associated with the life-giving Sun, and the dragons of light.
• Autumn is 103 days, the autumn equinox being on Lostar 23rd.
• Winter is the shortest, with 66 days, the winter solstice being on Berleth 16th. It is associated with the period of downtime spent with loved ones after the Disintegration ended.

Satelites

The Moons of Etheria

Etheria has two moons, Dunno and Tummo. Though often depicted close to each other, they have different orbits and can appear in different points in the sky. The two moons are similar in size, but are easily distinguished from each other, as Dunno, the smaller one, has a clearly visible crack spanning roughly half its size.

Every 20 weeks, there is a double full moon. On this night, individuals cursed with lycanthropy have a harder time staying in control of their bodies, almost as if the the moons’ light intensifies the might of the shadows.

Dunno

Dunno is a grey, slightly blue-tinted satelite similar to Earth’s Moon. It has a large crack of unknown origin going down its face. Some people swear they’ve seen something almost lizard like crawl out of it the night it cracked, but this has no evidence supporting it. It has a 28 day cycle during which it waxes and wanes.

Tummo

Tummo is Dunno’s slighly larger, red-tinted sibling. It has patterns that seem to slightly shift as it moves over the night sky. It has 35 day cycle during which it waxes and wanes.
