Being one big ancient desert, Ulsiala dominates the continent with its size. Its unwelcoming, harsh weather has driven most of its inhabitants to the more grass-filled regions of the continent. Most parts seem to stay untouched by human hand, with the exception of a handful of archeological sites not too far from the country’s capital. Not much is known of the life - or lack there of - in the desert. This though, hasn’t stopped the country from using the rare sands, found in the vast so called “Glass Desert”, to create glass panes and other objects and export it into the whole world.

Flora and Fauna

Unlike the rest of the continent, Ulsiala’s earth had been incredibly damaged by the Disintegration. It had dried out, barely baing able to sustain small bushes. Most of its clean water is diverted into the capital or into one of its smaller surrounding settlements. These conditions - including the strain of the war - however, have been quite good for the creation of precious gems, of which Ulsiala has plenty. Some caves are even used for tourism.

The country does lack in the animal department. It is not very likely that people encounter wild animals, as they are either hiding, or dead.

The Glass Desert

Usually used as a name for the whole span of Ulsiala’s desert, but the real Glass Desert is found in the core of the sandy landscape. Here, enormous glass pillars climb up to the skies. They reflect the sun very well, so people, who choose to visit these pillars, are advised to purchase some kind of eye protection, to prevent blindness. Small shards of these pillars are sold in the capital, as their ability to show the rainbow of colors light is made of is quite popular with wizards, artificers, scientists and children.

Scarred Fields

The true name for Ulsiala’s desert is based on the idea that, what is now just a dry and dangerous desert, used to be earth filled with flower fields. These days, however, it is a harsh environment that only the toughest of creatures survive.
